I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I am also certified in EMDR. My theoretical orientation is attachment focused, and I frequently employ the use of EMDR. I see individuals, couples, children & families. My practice includes clients of various ethnicities and sexual orientations. I work with folks of all ages.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy technique that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR people can move quickly, experiencing the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. Using the protocols and procedures learned in EMDR training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
Some of the most profound work I do is to help clients create a new template by imagining an ideal parent who is sensitively attuned to the infant, as well as through all the phases of child development. We do this through the implementation of EMDR.
I also use EMDR with clients who are depressed, anxious, phobic, as well as the presenting problems mentioned previously. Much research has been done which suggests that people are able to develop new neural pathways in the brain to create a different, more integrated sense of themselves in relation to earlier painful memories.
